About this Position

A. Classroom instruction 

  • Demonstrate best practices in a model early childhood education learning environment that meets the social, emotional, and physical needs of each child;
  • Integrate early intervention strategies into children's daily activities based on consultation from speech, occupational, physical and music therapists;
  • Record and organize observation and assessment documentation of child growth and development, and establish individual and group goals with parent input;
  • Prepare and implement a developmentally and individually appropriate, integrated curriculum based on individual and group interests and goals;
  • Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management;
  • Use a variety of strategies to collaborate with parents in their children's education including, but not limited to, quarterly parent-teacher conferences, documentation boards, child portfolios, parent events/committees, newsletters, and daily interactions;
  • Adhere to the Oklahoma state requirements for preschool and pre-kindergarten programs, and the standards of developmentally appropriate practices established by NAEYC.

B. Department responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain meaningful partnerships with program colleagues, volunteers, university faculty and students, and the community;
  • Coach and mentor Early Childhood Education (ECE) pre-service teachers. Provide verbal and written feedback as needed;
  • Collaborate with teacher assistants, substitute teachers, and student workers as assigned;
  • Work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.

C. Additional responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and healthy classroom;
  • Demonstrate continuous professional growth by attending or conducting teacher training events;
  • Attend staff meetings; help plan and participate in parent activities, fundraising events, work days and other special activities;
  • Organize and maintain learning materials and equipment in the classroom and indoors and outdoor storage areas;

Perform other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's

    Early Childhood Education, Education, or a related field

    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Oklahoma teaching certificate for Early Childhood Education

    Pediatric and Adult First Aid and CPR/AED certification

    Maintain 30 hours of annual certified professional development

    Annual bloodborne pathogen training

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Knowledge & Skills required:

    Knowledge of child growth and development, theories of learning, effective learning environments, and appropriate teaching strategies;

    Strong interpersonal and communication skills both, written and verbal;

    Ability to assess the effectiveness of instructional strategies and learning environments;

    Ability to give, receive, and reflect on constructive feedback;

    Team building skills;

    Time management and organizational skills.

    Flexibility to engage in a group setting and able to balance professionalism with a playful spirit.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's

    Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education

  • One or more year as a certified teacher in an early childhood classroom.

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Oklahoma teaching certificate for Early Childhood Education

    Pediatric and Adult First Aid and CPR/AED certification

    Maintain 30 hours of annual certified professional development

    Annual bloodborne pathogen training
