About this Position
Langston University seeks a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to perform complex professional accounting work in accordance with institutional, state, and federal policies, procedures, and guidelines. This role is essential to ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the University’s financial records, compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and the successful execution of key fiscal transactions. The Accountant will also contribute to financial planning and special projects that support the University's financial goals and strategic objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform complex accounting functions to ensure adherence to institutional, state, and federal regulations.

Execute, analyze, verify, and report financial transactions in compliance with GAAP.

Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports, records, and reconciliations.

Monitor past and present operational data to support financial forecasting and analysis.

Identify and report discrepancies, compliance concerns, and recommend corrective actions.

Assist in the development, implementation, and documentation of accounting policies and procedures.

Collaborate cross-functionally with university departments to ensure accuracy and transparency in reporting.

Support internal and external audits and assist in implementing audit recommendations.

Serve as a project lead on special initiatives to enhance financial systems or processes.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelors
- Accounting or Finance.
- At least 3 years of professional accounting experience in a diverse and complex financial environment.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Strong analytical skills and working knowledge of financial accounting standards and economic principles.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proven ability to meet internal and external deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including peers, subordinates, and senior leadership.

Strong attention to detail and excellent customer service skills.

Ability to interpret policies and procedures with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience in a higher education or public sector environment.
- Experience in cash management and/or grants and contracts accounting.

Familiarity with Banner ERP or similar enterprise accounting systems.

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
- CPA, CMA, or CFE designation.
