Clinically competent, certified professional Medical Assistant (MA), responsible for supporting nursing and provider staff in delivering high-quality patient care. Performs clinical tasks such as vital sign measurement, sample collection, patient preparation, and patient education, as well as administrative duties including scheduling and record-keeping. Maintain accurate, confidential, up-to-date, and legible records, ensuring all care provided is documented. Cultivate a climate of trust and compassion for patients. Collaborate with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, clinical staff, and nonclinical staff to form an efficient and high-performing medical team.
Professionally knowledgeable, responsible, and accountable in an environment that requires efficiency, speed, and thoroughness. Encourages an environment of teamwork. Communicates ideas and goals clearly and is an effective listener. Utilize leadership and professional development skills to assure quality patient care. Acts as a role model and, in selected situations, assists in training clinical support staff.
Perform all duties and functions in strict compliance with University Health Services (UHS) policies and procedures, as well as all applicable federal, state, local, and regulatory agencies. Adhere to ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assist in updating protocols and principles of practice as requested.
Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
Adhere to UHS productivity standards and meet at least the minimum requirement of key performance indicators (KPIs) as determined by leadership annually.
Demonstrates a regular and punctual attendance pattern.
Has strength and stamina for prolonged standing, walking, sitting, and dealing with stressful situations. Ability to lift at least 60lbs., reach, pull, push, bend, stoop, and kneel. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office and medical equipment.
Follow current guidelines for use of personal protective equipment to protect staff and others from potential exposure to infectious materials, substances, and biohazards including HIV, Hepatitis, latex etc.
Perform all other related clinical tasks, administrative tasks, or special tasks as required. Readily accepts other responsibilities and participates in other activities and committees as assigned.
Accredited Medical Assistant Program
(degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT), or equivalent certification.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
• Proficiency in electronic health record systems preferred.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• One year of clinical experience.
