About this Position

The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) is seeking a Lab Technician for the ENDEAVOR facility. ENDEAVOR is a one-of-a-kind laboratory designed to give engineering and other technical students hands-on experience with real tools to better prepare them to be engineers, scientists, and technicians in the real world.

The Lab Technician will provide technical support and oversee operations related to the safe use of the ENDEAVOR facility. They will maintain a clean and safe environment in lab and work areas and will train and support students and student employees who utilize the facilities and equipment. Primary responsibilities include:

Facilities:

  • Ensure building is securely closed and locked according to schedule and report any security issues or concerns immediately.
  • Control access to rooms where experiments are conducted.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repair on equipment, tools, and general instruments used for teaching in the lab. (This does not include tools or equipment which require highly specialized labor.)
  • Support in controlling the supply of materials required for classes and experiments conducted in the facility.
  • Monitor the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in lab spaces, educating users on PPE requirements and enforcing compliance.

ENDV Room 120:

  • Control access to Room 120 and keep a detailed record of all users and activities.
  • Keep Room 120 clean, safe, and accessible for all users.
  • Ensure proper functioning of equipment, including 3D printers, laser cutters, and other machinery, equipment, devices, and tools.

Student Functions:

  • Participate in the review and hiring of Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Assistants.
  • Establish and distribute work schedules and activity assignments for TAs.
  • Provide technical training to TAs related to the functions assigned to them.
  • Supervise tasks performed by TAs and periodically evaluate their performance and development.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Support the manufacturing tasks assigned within the ENDEAVOR or North Campus Lab facilities.
  • Support the organization of events held at the ENDEAVOR Lab, such as the Senior Design Expo.
  • Assist with activity schedules, event calendars, and event logistics. 
  • Complete administrative paperwork related to the operation of the lab.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED

    Two years of related work experience. Post-secondary education may substitute for years of experience. 

    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Use of a laptop/PC. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and SolidWorks.

    Demonstrated reliability and responsibility. Ability to work independently and take initiative.

    Effective communication with team members and supervisors.

    Proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential issues. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a laboratory or higher education setting.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Basic knowledge of lab equipment and repair procedures.
