About this Position

About OSU Extension: Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service (OCES) Extension Educators provide a link between OSU and the people of the state in all 77 Oklahoma counties. OCES represents a federal, state, and county partnership working since 1914.

The mission of OCES is to disseminate information to the people of Oklahoma and encourage the adoption of research-generated knowledge. Extension Educators provide research-based information to clientele in the areas of agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development, and community and rural development.

The candidate will coordinate FCS programming to county FCS educators and constituents by providing leadership and education.

  • Work closely with the Assistant Director, Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service/Family and Consumer Sciences program leader
  • Serve as a team member of district professionals under the direct supervision and guidance of the District Extension Director
  • Function as a liaison between field and state staff to promote effective interaction
  • Provide staff development in organizational development and management, needs assessment, and program development in Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Develop and implement a statewide FCS program that complements current programs at the state and district levels. The programmatic area will depend on the expertise and background of the individual
  • Seek and develop new program ideas and inspire others to more effective, creative performance
  • Identify appropriate educational delivery methods and resources for meeting the needs of clientele in urban, rural, and culturally diverse communities
  • Increase awareness of family and consumer sciences by maintaining contacts with professional organizations and family service agencies and organizations
  • Lead and collaborate with county, district, and state staff in the procurement of grant projects that contribute to individual and coordinated county extension programs.
  • Monitor FCS grants and special projects in the district
  • Assume other duties as necessary due to vacancies or for other reasons as assigned by the District Extension Director

Required Qualifications

  • Master's with at least one degree in Family and Consumer Sciences or closely related
    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Demonstrated expertise in Family and Consumer Sciences with a minimum of three years of Cooperative Extension work.

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Valid Drivers License. Reliable transportation for travel connected with official duties. Reimbursement for official travel.
  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
    • Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate effectively, and to foster a professional image of OCES by displaying a positive view of the organization both internally and externally.
    • Demonstrated ability to adapt well to changing priorities, situations and day-to-day demands.
    • Demonstrated ability and willingness to effectively manage time and resources.
    • Must possess strong writing, communication and organizational skills.
    • Commitment to continue personal professional development.
    • Evidence of ability to build and maintain relationships and work effectively with clientele, advisory groups, volunteer leaders and other professionals, etc.
    • Demonstrated competency and effective use of computing and computer-based communications technology.
    • Demonstrated leadership ability in designing, promoting, presenting and evaluating educational programs and the desire to program to reach diverse audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in Cooperative Extension or closely related work is desirable.
