Position may be eligible for hybrid work schedule, but on site hours will be required each week. Any offer is contingent upon approval by University Human Resources in consideration of OSU policies, labor laws, and suitability to the work of the position/department.

The Web Developer has primary responsibility for a) enhancing and maintaining the codebase for OSU System web templates, websites and applications which includes implementing changes and developing additional front end components, functionality and integrations b) providing technical support and guidance to campus contacts for web projects and c) assisting with CMS management including configuration and maintenance, migrations and development/enhancement of tools and functionality d) ensuring that all development work adheres to team standards, university policies, legal requirements and industry best practices for security, performance, maintainability and digital accessibility.
As part of the university’s central web team, the web developer will utilize technical and problem-solving skills to enhance the functionality of the OSU web platform and make impactful contributions to high-level projects which advance the university’s strategy, priorities and reputation management.
The individual must demonstrate a strong foundation of web development skills including HTML, CSS, Javascript, server-side languages such as PHP, content management system (CMS) fundamentals and the ability to work with multiple frameworks and languages while exhibiting excellent attention to detail and accuracy. The individual should demonstrate self-direction, creativity and strategic thinking in finding new opportunities to showcase Oklahoma State University.

Our areas of expertise include media relations, crisis communications, internal/external messaging, branding, advertising, recruitment communications, visual media, digital strategy and more. This department aims to advance OSU’s land-grant mission and demonstrate its global impact through creative communications that support student success, elevate brand reputation, engage the Cowboy family, and serve the state of Oklahoma and beyond.
Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field.

Must demonstrate strong foundational web development skills including HTML, CSS, Javascript and server side languages such as PHP, fundamentals of content management systems (CMS) and an ability to work with multiple frameworks and languages. Familiarity with digital accessibility concepts and standards such as 508/WCAG 2.1. Experience with content management systems. Experience troubleshooting and resolving cross-browser behaviors and quirks. Experience contributing and managing code in a version control system, such as git. Ability to work cross-functionally with supervisors, unit staff and campus partners to ensure a collaborative environment, coordinated efforts and maximized outcomes. Must learn quickly and demonstrate flexibility in the work environment. Exhibit strong attention to detail as well as the ability to effectively manage multiple assignments with different priorities and tight deadlines. Demonstrate creativity, integrity and passion for growing the brand of Oklahoma State University.
Knowledge of current trends and best practices in front-end architecture including performance, accessibility, responsive design and usability. Experience developing and remediating code to conform to 508/WCAG 2.1 web accessibility guidelines. Experience with advanced XML manipulation including experience with Xpath, Xquery and XSLT is highly desirable. Experience developing themes, modules, or integrations with a Content Management System such as Wordpress. Experience using APIs to develop integrations and extend functionality. Familiarity using Apache/Linux web server/Docker environments for development. Experience using git to contribute and manage code in a team environment. Strong knowledge of web analytics and tools.
