About this Position
Perform imaging on animals of all species with compassionate and appropriate patient care. Primarily perform Ultrasound imaging studies but may also include Radiographs, CT, NM, and/or MRI exams on patients as requested by radiologists and/or other clinicians. Document the completed exams. Maintain records and perform routine quality control associated with each modality. Instruct and assist veterinary students in positioning of patients for routine, special procedures, and/or emergency procedures. Model radiation safety and follow ALACA guidelines and university radiation safety standards and policies. Maintain stock and cleanliness of assigned room(s). Perform minor administrative duties. Complete other tasks that are assigned or become necessary. If on emergency duty, must be available and on site within 30 minutes and or willing to fill in, in an emergency situation. May also include other duties as assigned. Promotional opportunities may be available through established career development plan.
Required Qualifications
Associate's (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with two years of diagnostic imaging experience; or Radiological Technologist (ARRT) or Sonographer (ARDMS)
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Must be able to perform routine diagnostic imaging studies focused in Ultrasound. Animal handling skills or ability/willingness to learn. Must be comfortable working with animals in general. Highly desirable to feel comfortable around animals. Assist with lifting heavy animals, up to 100-120 pounds. Radiography, CT, MRI, and/or Nuclear Medicine experience/training desired but not necessary. Will provide training for other modalities in the imaging service. Will need to be able to quickly maneuver around imaging tables to position animal patients and between table and adjacent anesthetic equipment. Must be comfortable with Windows-based computer applications.
Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program or technical degree from a certified radiology training program and 5-10 years of veterinary technician experience and/or radiological technologist experience. Prefer Ultrasound experience with additional knowledge/experience of CT, MRI, or Nuclear Medicine Imaging.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), American Registry of Radiological Technologies, and/or Registered Veterinary Technician
