About this Position

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

The Student Recruitment & Industry Outreach Specialist serves as the primary external-facing representative of STHE, building and sustaining relationships with high schools, Career Tech centers, corporate partners, repair facilities and equipment dealers, that drive enrollment into STHE programs. This role requires a self-directed professional who is comfortable operating in secondary and post-secondary education and tech school environments, in recruiting events such as Skills USA, FAA Conventions and school career days, and in industry environments. The Specialist serves as the primary recruitment representative for STHE, developing and executing outreach strategies that increase awareness, engagement, and enrollment in STHE programs. The position cultivates relationships with high schools, career tech centers, and industry partners, coordinates recruitment events, manages prospective student communications, supports on-campus recruitment activities, and contributes to student retention through structured engagement and follow-up efforts. Frequent regional travel is an inherent and expected component of this position.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited university. Bachelor’s degree preferred.  

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in recruitment, sales, partnership development, workforce development, or a related external-facing role.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently throughout the region, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to represent OSUIT credibly in both industry and academic environments.
  • Proficiency in standard office technology and comfort with CRM or contact tracking systems. 

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with transportation, heavy equipment, diesel technology, or related technical industries. 
  • Experience working with secondary education institutions (high schools or Career Tech centers) in a recruitment or partnership capacity. 
  • Prior experience in higher education student services, workforce development, or industry relations. 
  • Knowledge of OSUIT's service region and existing industry partner landscape. 

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Word processing abilities and MS Office applications.
  • Proficient in spelling, punctuation, proper business English, and excellent vocabulary.
  • Ability to transcribe and type complex, technical and confidential documents accurately and to compose effective and accurate correspondence.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to work with various clients and visitors.
  • A positive “can-do” attitude along with a professional appearance and demeanor should be modeled at all times.
  • Must have a willingness to continually self-initiate learning to remain current in expertise.
  • Ability to quickly grasp and apply training in learning new skills and methods.
  • Must be flexible, innovative, and self-motivated.

Communication Skills:

  • Must possess excellent listening and customer service skills.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent people skills, with the ability to effectively recognize and resolve conflict.
