About this Position

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Oklahoma State University (OSU), is seeking an applicant for a 3-year comparative multi-species residency position in Theriogenology to commence July 15, 2027, through July 14, 2030.

The intent of the program is to provide a graduate veterinarian opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of Theriogenology in the areas of Equine, Small Animal, and Food Animal, as well as other supporting disciplines under the supervision and guidance of Diplomates of the ACT. The goal of the program is to prepare the candidate for a future career in academic or specialty private practice. Desire to obtain board certification by the American College of Theriogenologists is required.  This program is devoted primarily to participation in the theriogenology service of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VTH) and the CVM Ranch.

Graduation from an AVMA accredited college of veterinary medicine is required for consideration and currently visa sponsorship is not an option. A DVM degree or its equivalent is required.  A completed 1-year internship or equivalent private veterinary practice experience is required.

Salary is $50,000 per year. Benefits include medical and life insurance, worker’s compensation, 14 days of annual leave and 22 days of sick leave per year. Long-term disability, dental insurance, and dependent medical and life insurance are optionally available at employee’s expense. Professional liability is covered by the Oklahoma Tort Claims Act.

You will be required to pay for a faculty license ($125) through the state of Oklahoma and must have passed the NAVLE exam prior to beginning the residency. Parking permits are required to park near the teaching hospital at an approximate cost of $160 per academic year.

The Theriogenology section at OSU is comprised of five board certified Theriogenologists. We strive to offer a strong comparative program through a growing and active small animal caseload, a perennially busy equine caseload, and specialty practice food animal caseload and experiences. We have a long history of a strong caseload in client mare fertility, breeding and foaling management, as well as stallion breeding management. In small animals we offer transcervical insemination, culture and biopsy services, semen analysis and freezing, in addition to and as part of our infertility, breeding and whelping management program. Of note, resident herds of horses (mares and stallions) and cattle are kept at the OSU CVM Ranch for deep hands-on experience with breeding management, semen analysis and freezing, as well as teaching and research purposes.

Managing varied relationships with successful facilitation, collaboration and cooperation and able to work calmly under stressful situations is required.
  
  Must have technical skills and clinical judgment will be obtained through supervised case management, didactic course work, and teaching professional students.
