About this Position

This is a Temporary role

The Painter performs skilled painting and finishing work in the maintenance, repair, and renovation of university buildings, facilities, and equipment. This position is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing interior and exterior surfaces of structures, equipment, furniture, and fixtures to maintain a safe, attractive, and functional campus environment. The Painter ensures that all work meets established quality standards, adheres to university brand and color guidelines, and complies with applicable safety and environmental regulations.

Working under general supervision, the Painter interprets work orders, determines appropriate materials and methods, and completes assignments efficiently with minimal disruption to campus operations. The role collaborates closely with other Facilities team members—including carpentry, electrical, and mechanical trades to support preventive maintenance, renovations, and special projects across all university properties.

Perform other assigned duties related to operations, maintenance and renovations to buildings and equipment such as preventive maintenance, light duty carpentry, painting, and other miscellaneous repairs and maintenance activities, and respond to emergency and urgent work.

This may require work during nonbusiness hours which include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and when the University is closed. 

Employee in this position is required to work overtime when work requires. Employee in this position is required to work shift work when work can't be accomplished during regular hours, and when the Management staff deems necessary.  

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Four years of experience in general framing, interior framing, drywall, finish carpentry, cabinet making, concrete finishing, etc.;
  • or two years of post-secondary education in the building trades or technical field with two years of the above experience in a University, commercial or industrial building maintenance organization.   

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

  • Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with customers and coworkers who have inquiries on work and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. 
  • Ability to become proficient in the use of "AiM" Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology. 
  • Must work safely and promote a safe environment. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational/Technical in Building Trades/Technical Field
  • Two years of post-secondary education in the building trades with three years of prior successful work experience in general framing, interior framing, drywall, finish carpentry, cabinet making, concrete finishing in the building trades or technical field at a university, commercial or industrial building maintenance organization.
