About this Position

Langston University is seeking a full-time Instructor/Assistant Professor of Social Sciences in the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities. For the Spring/Fall 2026 semesters.

Duties and Responsibilities

Faculty member must be prepared to fulfill the responsibilities of teaching, scholarship, and service to the university. The faculty member will teach a minimum of 12 hours per semester in lower and upper division Sociology courses as well as Criminal Justice courses. Faculty member will provide mentorship and academic advising to undergraduate students. Faculty member should be skilled in the application of technology to enhance teaching and learning. Faculty member will actively seek grants and other funding to help strengthen the department’s research program and provide student support. Faculty member will participate in departmental, school, and university projects and committees. The faculty member will play an active role in shaping the future of the social sciences and humanities department through departmental planning and development.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D./Ed.D. (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
    • A Ph.D. in Sociology or similar field from a regionally or nationally accredited university is preferred; Master’s degree candidates strongly encouraged to apply.

  • College teaching experience preferred.
  • The preferred candidate will also possess effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Interest in participating in active research in social science which could involve undergraduate students is highly desirable.
  • The preferred candidate must have the ability to demonstrate use of technology in the classroom and must be willing and able to use technology relevant to specifically assigned courses.

  • Experience with online or hybrid teaching

  • Effective use of instructional technology

  • Interest in mentoring undergraduate research

  • Ability to engage and support students from underrepresented populations

  • Commitment to inclusive and innovative teaching practices
