About this Position
This position is based on the Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater, OK. It is an office-based position; remote and hybrid work are not currently an option for this role.
Fire Protection Publications is a mission-driven, values-based organization dedicated to the production of high-quality educational content for the international community of firefighters and first responders. The person in this role will be responsible for duties pertaining to Editorial development for Fire Protection Publications.
Major Responsibilities
As a Project Specialist - Editor, you will:
Lead the project development of fire service training manuals from chapter drafts through final publication of the entire manual.
Coordinate the review of draft materials with a committee of subject matter experts.
Research, compose and/or revise original drafts for use in fire service training manuals.
Select and assist in the creation of photos, artwork and tables for use in final publication of fire service training manuals.
Edit manual text for grammar, spelling, style, organization and completion.
Proof manual copy layout for grammar, spelling, style and formatting errors.
Work with other departments to assist with the creation of instructional materials, multimedia, presentations, marketing materials and newsletters as requested.
Participate in the implementation of goals and objectives of Fire Protection Publications as requested.
Explore professional development opportunities in vocational training, adult education, fire service training and technical writing and editing.
Represent FPP and IFSTA as needed.
Represent FPP and IFSTA by serving as a Lead Editor to IFSTA validation committees.
Deliver presentations and committee orientations at seminars, conferences, university functions or staff meetings upon request.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Related field (as determined by the department) (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
One year of related work experience
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Edit and proofread training materials.
Ability to work from a file server in a shared network environment.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft and PowerPoint.
Highly organized
Ability to set and maintain schedules
Excellent writing and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's
Bachelor’s degree in Secondary, Adult, Vocational or Occupational Education, Educational Psychology, Technical Writing, Fire Protection, Curriculum and Instruction or related field.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
Firefighter, Fire Officer, Fire Instructor certification. Vocational education in emergency services field.
