About this Position

The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for the daily oversight, coordination, and quality control of custodial operations within the Student Union. This role supervises housekeeping staff, assigns and monitors work, verifies time and attendance, and ensures all services meet established cleanliness, safety, and operational standards. The position provides leadership through interviewing and training staff, conducting performance evaluations, and recommending personnel actions in coordination with Human Resources. The supervisor ensures compliance with the OSU Hazardous Communication Program, maintains MSDS documentation, and delivers specialized and on-the-job training on equipment, chemicals, and safety procedures.

The Custodial Supervisor conducts regular inspections to maintain quality control, manages custodial equipment and supplies, tests and evaluates new products, and establishes floor care schedules to ensure uniform cosmetic appearance of tile and carpeted surfaces. This position serves as a liaison with Student Union personnel, responds to occupant concerns, reports building maintenance issues, maintains required departmental records, and assists the Director and Assistant Director for Building Operations with planning, budgeting, meetings, and overall departmental needs. The role requires regular physical presence during shifts to support staff, address non-routine service needs, and ensure a safe, productive work environment.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Two years of related work experience. Post-secondary education may be substituted for years of experience. Physical ability to move throughout the building.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Ability to manage and motivate people. Good oral and written communication skills. Good organizational ability.
