Assist the Electrical Distribution Supervisor with the supervision, oversight, and scheduling of day-to-day activities of the Electrical Distribution staff.
The Assistant Supervisor, along with the Supervisor, serves as a vital link between the team and management, ensuring daily operations run safely, reliably, and cost-effectively to meet University goals. The ideal candidate is a proactive and supportive leader who motivates, coaches, and develops team members to reach their full potential. The ideal candidate will also plan, develop, and coordinate Electric Distribution work activities.
Due to communication expectations of the position, the employee will be required to maintain a personal cell phone and will be required to be continually available during and after normal working hours.
Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (including but not limited to, hard hats, safety glasses, leather boots, arc-rated FR gear, respirator, and voltage-rated gloves, etc.).These items are provided and are not for personal use.
Employee in this position may be required to be on rotating standby for emergencies and/or any other event after normal working hours on weekdays, on weekends and holidays, and to work overtime when work requires. Employee in this position must be able to respond at any time of the day or night, when scheduled by management, regardless of the weather conditions.
Position requires working some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies, and may require work during non-business hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and other times when the University is closed. Emergencies may involve difficult working conditions in extreme weather and on rough terrain.
The employee is required to provide their own basic hand tools and maintain them in good working condition.
Work involves regular exposure to uncomfortable and hazardous working conditions, both indoors and out, such as extreme temperatures, moving machinery, electrical sources, potentially hazardous chemicals, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
Includes periodic exposure to unpleasant working conditions in wet cable vaults and during inclement or extreme weather. Regular work may involve danger working with high voltage.
Position requires regular physical exertion to complete assignments; ability to easily move about or remain in a stationary position 50% of the time; adaptability to oversee work in underground confined spaces, trenches, cramped areas, or on overhead distribution systems, and to oversee or participate in the operation of heavy equipment during extreme weather conditions and/or on rough terrain.
Occasionally required to ascend/descend heights to accomplish work. Employee must be able to lift, pull, push, and/or carry sometimes very heavy equipment and supplies, including the ability to frequently lift up to 50lbs, and occasionally lift in excess of 50 lbs.
Required to work safely and promote a safe environment.

Four years of increasingly responsible work experience with three of those years involving work in electrical distribution or another directly related field.
Up to two years of post-secondary education may substitute for two years of full time experience. As a general guideline, 1 year of full-time experience equals 1 year of post-secondary education.
Must obtain a Class B CDL license upon hire (or obtain within 12 months of hire) and maintain license for duration of employment.
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
Ability to keep confidentiality regarding sensitive information and personnel issues.
Electrical Distribution or Technical Field
Four years of increasingly responsible work experience with three of those years constructing and maintaining electrical distribution infrastructure, aerial and underground.
Two years of supervisory experience.
Up to one year of post-secondary management training may substitute for supervisory experience.
Supervisory and Leadership
Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role, with a track record of building effective and cohesive teams.
Safety
Working knowledge of electric distribution safety practices, including training and documentation, and the ability to evaluate and teach those skills to staff. Demonstrated history of implementing a safety program.
Administrative
Command of the concepts of a work order system and ability to efficiently operate OSU’s AiM-based centralized computer-based work order system on both desktop computers and mobile devices.
Command of the concepts of asset management and the ability to efficiently operate OSU’s AiM-based centralized computer-based asset management system on both desktop computers and mobile devices.
Command of the concepts of geographic information systems (GIS), the ability to efficiently view and update attributes in OSU’s ArcProcentralized computer-based GIS on both desktop computers and mobile devices, and the ability to utilize the information in the GIS to meet campus needs.
Command of reading and coordinating review of electrical construction plans and specifications, including gathering input from multiple staff members with varied expertise.
Command of reading and utilizing Energy Services’ CAD-based “life safety drawings” and SKM-based schematic drawings representing the components and connectivity of the campus electrical distribution system.
Demonstrated experience with OSU purchasing policies and guidelines.
Technical
Command of the campus electrical distribution system, including buildings served, alternate feeds, the PDC, etc.
Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
Capable of demonstrating knowledge required for Medium Voltage Distribution Electrician Career Development Plan (CDP) Level 4
Demonstrated history of performing and developing preventive maintenance checks, services, and schedules, and interpreting diagnostic information related to proactive maintenance programs.
Capable of performing electrical calculations, medium voltage terminations and splices, overhead and underground distribution systems design and construction.
