The accountant position serves under the Associate Vice President for Administration and Finance and is expected to maintain a professional, courteous, and respectful demeanor in all verbal and written communication. This role is responsible for managing and reconciling financial accounts held at OSU and the OSU Foundation, ensuring that all financial paperwork is processed accurately and in compliance with OSU policies as well as state and federal laws, rules, and guidelines. The position oversees purchasing card transaction logs and provides accounting approval for all related activities. Additionally, the accountant attends Fiscal and Administrative Officers meetings to stay informed on policy and procedural updates, works closely with the accounting and budget offices, and manages records, including retention and retrieval of documents. The role also prepares travel requests and reimbursements as needed and performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's
Accounting or Finance
(degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
University Accountant I - no experience required.
University Accountant II - two years of related experience.
University Accountant III - five years of related experience.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Exhibits professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Thorough understanding of Microsoft Office software.
Extensive knowledge and proficiency in accounting and budgeting principles.
Ability to learn to use new tools/technology and quickly begin projects using newly developed skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's
Accounting
Five years experience with OSU Accounting, Purchasing and Banner, as well as OSU Foundation accounts.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
CPA
