Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm with occasional evenings and weekends. Instruction may include evenings and online instruction.

About this Position

The Information Systems Technology (IST) instructor will be responsible for providing comprehensive instruction in a range of subjects, including: Networking, Information Technology (IT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The role of the instructor is to develop in each student the skills of critical thinking and to help students learn the subject matter presented to them in order for that student to become a positive member of the community.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Teach a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester for laboratory classes or fifteen (15) credit hours for non-laboratory classes or equivalent service. This may include evening instruction.
  2. Maintains required certifications in networking, information technology, and/or artificial intelligence.
  3. Maintain student and course records with updates on the learning management system.
  4. Maintain and file current course outlines, objectives, and grading procedures for all courses.
  5. Advise and assist students in selecting appropriate academic courses.
  6. Post and keep office hours per institutional guidelines.
  7. May serve as lead instructor.
  8. Implement the institutionally-recommended strategies for retention.
  9. Implements the assessment model.
  10. Serve on special projects and committees.
  11. Assists in the designing/revising of courses and curricula, with a focus on integrating new technologies and best practices in networking, information technology, and AI.
  12. Exhibit innovative and adaptive instructional methods.
  13. Completes all mandatory training and participates in RPT recommended level of professional development each year.
  14. Fulfill all faculty requirements as noted in the Faculty Handbook.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's
    • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or Management Information Systems.
    • Master’s degree in Business or Higher Education is acceptable, provided the candidate has documented 18 credit hours of upper-division coursework in computer, information technology, or artificial intelligence.
    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Must be qualified to teach and provide leadership in an academic discipline and/or degree program.
  • Minimum of one year of experience teaching networking, information technology, or artificial intelligence (AI) courses in an academic setting.
  • Minimum of one year of college-level teaching experience.

 

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Must possess or be willing to earn applicable, documented industry IT certifications in networking, information technology, or artificial intelligence.
  • Teaching Competence – Must be able to effectively create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to transform information to knowledge for students; can assess student learning and progress.
  • Communication skills – Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English and prepare complex reports on deadline; requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, alumni, advisory committee members, and the public, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
  • Computer skills – Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as email, internet, and learning management systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads, and public/student contact.
  • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism
  • Evidence of a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D./Ed.D.
  • Doctorate in a related field preferred
  • Experience in Learning Management Systems such as D2L, Blackboard, or Canvas

 

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, in an often busy and noisy environment.
  • Work will be performed in an office and classroom environment as well as online with significant public contact in person, by telephone, and via email. 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Duties require extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, listening, and computer usage.
  • Duties require extensive use of computers, telephone and other office equipment.
  • Requires possible lifting of up to 25 lbs. (If an object weighs more than 45 lbs., OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift).
