About this Position

*Assist the classroom teacher in providing instruction to the children in large groups, small groups and individually. *Assist the classroom teacher in planning and preparing materials for daily instruction. *Support teachers in managing classroom behavior. *Attend to children who are upset or have had an accident. *Implement strategies/techniques recommended by therapists. *Maintain clean and safe indoor and outdoor learning environments. *Change diapers, assist with toileting and handwashing. *Assist in the classroom preparation for lunches and snacks. *Help with special events. *Maintain standards required by the Department of Human Services, NAEYC, and OSU. *Assist classroom teacher with preparation of portfolios (classroom and child). *Participate in professional development, required annual trainings and conferences. *Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a full-time position that will not have scheduled hours during the months of June and July, unless work is available. During the down time, you will be responsible for any voluntary benefits (i.e. medical, vision, dental, life, etc.), and those will be billed to your bursar account.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • One year working with children in an Early Childhood Education setting or as a student teacher.
  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: *Child Development Associate (CDA) or 12 college credits in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or Special Education within one year. *Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment and renewed every two years. *Annual registration with the Oklahoma Professional Development Registry and 20 hours of annual approved training through the Center for Early Childhood Professional Development (CECPD).
  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: *Communication and literacy: Ability to produce clear, structured written work and oral literacy (speaking and listening). *Team work: respecting others, co-operating, contributing and leading discussions. *Self-management: flexibility, time management, readiness to improve own performance. *Problem-solving: applying creative thinking to develop appropriate solutions *Positive attitude (readiness to learn, take part, openness to new ideas and activities and a desire to achieve). *Information technology: basic IT skills and research using internet search engines. *Develop a knowledge and understanding of child development through play, developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum, and instruction. *Explore key learning skills, principles and promotes children's positive behavior. *Demonstrate an understanding of the implications and learning strategies of specific disabilities. *Develop a broader understanding of the early years, including social and emotional health and safety, language and literacy development of children, and nutrition for children.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Early Childhood Education
  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: *Child Development Associate (CDA) or 12 college credits in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or Special Education within one year. *Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment and renewed every two years. *Annual registration with the Oklahoma Professional Development Registry and 20 hours of annual approved training through the Center for Early Childhood Professional Development (CECPD).
