About this Position

The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a System Administrator. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication. The System Administrator implements, manages, maintains, and troubleshoots VetMed IT core Infrastructure, while monitoring VetMed core resources and VetMed core security. This position is expected to respond to critical failures 24/7. This role will plan/coordinate infrastructure refresh/renewal cycles and manage user accounts, access, permissions, and security policies using Active Directory and related security tools within the VetMed environment.

The individual hired for this position must successfully complete a Department of Justice/Federal Bureau of Investigation (DOJ/FBI) security risk assessment as well as background check. 

This position reports to The College of Veterinary Medicine’s Director of Information Technology.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED

    Four years of system administration experience or two years of post-secondary education and two years of related experience. Successful completion of a bachelor's degree is required within six years of hire.

    OR

    Bachelor's degree required with no experience.

    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

 

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Must be eligible for employment in areas governed by the U.S. Patriot Act and the Public Health and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002, 42 CFR 73, 7 CFR 331, and 9 CFR 121. Consequently, the individual hired for this position must successfully complete a Department of Justice/Federal Bureau of Investigation (DOJ/FBI) security risk assessment as well as the background check.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Proven troubleshooting/critical thinking skills. VMware Infrastructure Knowledge. Understanding of Microsoft Windows Server and Microsoft 365 technologies. Three plus years of Windows, Linux & VMware Administration. Engage in a Program of Continuous Learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's

    MIS, Computer Science or other related field.

  • Five plus years of enterprise infrastructure experience in production environments; three plus years of VMware administration in enterprise environments; three plus years of Windows Server administration experience and/or Linux Servers administration experience; and experience supporting enterprise SAN environments and virtual server infrastructure. Experience with Server virtualization is required. VMware certification is preferred.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    CISSP, VMware or Microsoft certifications
