About this Position

The Web and Digital Specialist supports the Web Coordinator for OSU Center for Health Sciences and is responsible for assisting with the design, development, and support of the university’s digital communications. As part of the External Affairs team, the Web Specialist is customer-service focused and achieves marketing goals utilizing technical knowledge combined with strong written communication skills.

The Web and Digital Specialist plans site page layouts and navigation within OSU’s content management systems (CMS), including the university’s proprietary CMS and WordPress websites, using established templates and following brand guidelines in partnership with team members. The Web and Digital Specialist will also assist in the design and development of email communications using hard code. This role requires ensuring all digital and web designs meet accessibility (WCAG 2.1) requirements and brand standards.

Additionally, the Web and Digital Specialist will contribute to the creation of guidelines, learning materials, and research to support understanding and best practices for OSU’s digital systems and accessibility standards. They may also develop resources for other digital-related topics as needed. The Web and Digital Specialist will conduct and report analysis of site traffic, Google analytics, and other web and digital metrics.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's
    • In Web development/design, Management of Informatic Systems, Digital Marketing, Strategic Communications, Interdisciplinary or equivalent experience
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of professional web development or design experience
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript for email and web development.
  • Experience working with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress and proprietary CMS platforms.
  • Graphic design skills with experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).
  • Understanding digital analytics platforms like Google Analytics.
  • Post-secondary education may substitute for years of required experience.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript for web development and email design.
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS), including WordPress and proprietary platforms.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and best practices for inclusive digital design.
  • Graphic design proficiency using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).
  • Ability to build and troubleshoot hard-coded email templates using HTML.
  • Understanding of responsive web design principles.
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics and other digital analytics tools for tracking and reporting web metrics..
  • Experience using ADA compliance tools and conducting accessibility audits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's
  • Knowledge of email marketing platforms and building HTML-based email templates. Familiarity with Slate 
  • Experience contributing to the development of guidelines, training materials, or documentation related to digital platforms and accessibility
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices 
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and best practices for accessible web design 
  • Experience in an academic setting
  • Experience with Squiz DXP
  • Experience working with email marketing platforms and building HTML-based email templates.
  • Familiarity with ADA compliance tools for accessibility testing.
