About this Position

Fire Protection Publications is a mission-driven, values-based organization dedicated to the production of high-quality educational content for the international community of firefighters and first responders. The person in this role will be responsible for duties pertaining to Shipping and Receiving for Fire Protection Publications.

Major Responsibilities

As a Shipping and Receiving Clerk, you will:

  • Enter information into computer to process orders, verify information on screen is valid, and has a usable ship-to address.
  • Manually enter information into system to ship an item to a location not in the database and keep a copy to be filed in the appropriate location.
  • Ensure that all orders invoiced for a particular day are processed, packaged, and ready for pick up by carriers at the specified time using computer based Shipping Software.
  • Assist with walk-in customers and/or students who purchase items directly from the warehouse.
  • Use cart and pick list to select items for shipping.
  • Take items from picking to shipping area and put them into pre-designated slots to increase efficiency during packing process.
  • Select items from the pick for packaging based on individual orders that have been sorted by carrier and content of the order.
  • Create packages for future shipping and shrink wrap any items that need to be wrapped prior to shipping.
  • Run end of day reports showing summary of days shipping and tracking numbers.
  • Verify the amount in boxes match with packing slip and report any discrepancies.
  • Put packaging boxes into their proper location when bundles are transferred from large stock warehouse to the picking warehouse.
  • Assists with 10%, 25%, and year-end inventories.
  • Ensure all equipment is working properly, and report issues to Supervisor if the issue cannot be quickly resolved.
  • Maintain a clean working environment throughout the entire warehouse to ensure that machinery continues to run without problems.
  • Inform supervisor of level of shipping supplies including tape labels, shrink wrap, and any other materials used on a daily basis.
  • Work with high-rack storage units, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

  • Forklift Certification - after hired this position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School/GED
  • Six months for entry level of Shipping and Receiving Clerk.
  • Two years experience with forklift certification.
  • Five years experience with working independently with decision making skills.

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

  • Valid drivers license 
  • This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently.
