This position assists in preparing and processing animal tissues for histopathological interpretation by a veterinary pathologist; conducts routine histopathologic techniques; performs the routine duties of primary histotechnician, and conducts special stains; maintains records on tissues and specimens processed and stained for examination by pathologists. Assists in preparing special stain and H&E reagent solutions, as needed and serves as a back-up to the technician in charge of this duty. Maintains the histopathology laboratory and all storage areas in a clean and orderly state. Coordinates with other departments on research or special projects. Assists with clerical duties, including answering the phone, filling out forms, and mailing out laboratory samples as needed.
Four years' related work experience. Post- secondary education may be substituted in lieu of experience. Experience working in a public health, veterinary medical, medical, clinical, or research lab.
Rabies immunization required, or proof of adequate rabies titer required.
1 to 2 years of experience as a histotechnician.
