About this Position

This position is assigned to the Molecular Diagnostics section at OADDL. The primary responsibilities of this position are to prepare and process animal tissues, fluids, bacterial/fungal cultures, and other clinical specimens for DNA/RNA extraction; conduct routine molecular biology techniques, assist in writing and implementing new SOPs, test validation, and maintenance of equipment; assist in maintaining the molecular diagnostics laboratory and all storage areas in a clean and orderly state; and other duties as assigned. Occasional weekend and holiday work will be assigned. Rabies immunization is required and will be provided.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED(degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Four years’ related work experience. Post-secondary education may be substituted for years of experience.

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

Rabies immunization is required and will be provided.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

Working knowledge and proficiency in molecular techniques; specifically, RNA/DNA extractions, PCR analysis, molecular assay development, use of gel electrophoresis, and trouble-shooting. Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and proficiency in general use of laboratory equipment are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's

    Biology, Biochemistry or related field.

  • Understanding of molecular techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and nucleic acid extraction through laboratory coursework or working in a diagnostic or research laboratory.
