About this Position

This is a Grant Funded role.

The Hardesty Center for Clinical Research and Neuroscience seeks a full-time Research Assistant to support a portfolio of interventional clinical trials. The position combines participant recruitment with hands-on clinical research coordination, including conducting study visits, administering clinical assessments, and supporting study drug administration and safety monitoring for enrolled participants.

Duties

  • Assist with participant recruitment and screening, including community and clinic outreach, telephone and in-person screening, and eligibility determination.
  • Conduct study visits with enrolled participants, including administering clinical assessments and questionnaires, collecting vital signs, monitoring and documenting study drug administration, and observing participants for adverse events and other safety concerns.
  • Build and maintain rapport with participants to support engagement and retention throughout the study period.
  • Accurately document study visit data in source documents and electronic data capture (EDC) systems.
  • Maintain compliance with study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements.
  • Assist with regulatory documentation and maintenance of study files.
  • Assist with activities across multiple concurrent studies and protocols.
  • Work as a team member within the OSU Biomedical Imaging Center and an ‘extended team’ member in the labs of research faculty with which the Simmons Lab is affiliated.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's
    • Degree in psychology, public health, biology, nursing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build trust and rapport with research participants.
  • Ability to work with diverse participant populations in a nonjudgmental, patient-centered manner.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple studies and protocols simultaneously and to prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Proficiency with standard office and data entry software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in clinical research, healthcare, or human subjects research.
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems, such as REDCap.
  • Experience collecting vital signs.
  • Phlebotomy experience or certification; training and certification are available to candidates without prior experience.
  • Prior experience working with participants with substance use disorders or other behavioral health conditions.
  • Experience with participant recruitment and retention in longitudinal or interventional studies.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and human subjects protection training.

Working Conditions

  • Risk of exposure to strong acids/bases.
  • Ability to lift and carry 20 pounds, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations.
