PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  The Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management at Oklahoma State University has Post-Doctoral funding for an individual interested in analyzing comprehensive models of fire, vegetation, and grazing. This position will focus on collecting and analyzing comprehensive data related to ecosystem services that include the thermal environment, soil carbon, water infiltration, and ecological relationships between plants and animals. The focus of the project will be collaborative with a group of researchers to include conservation and management of rangelands and integrating remote sensing into the project.

REQUIREMENTS:  Applicants should have a Ph.D. in rangeland ecology or related discipline, and demonstrated proficiency in modeling including skills in R, SAS or equivalent.  Expertise in woody plant encroachment, fire ecology and grazing are critical. Knowledge of plant composition in Oklahoma is important. The ability to integrate these data with remote sensing products is very desirable.  The position will be based at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  Excellent oral and written communication skills and a valid U.S. driver’s license are required.  Periodic field campaigns will require overnight travel and working under inclement weather conditions.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS: The position is open to applicants immediately.  The start date is flexible.  The duration of the position is one year depending on satisfactory performance with potential for extensions.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills, and is contingent upon available funding.  Natural Resource Ecology and Management at Oklahoma State University is a dynamic department with 20 faculty and a strong program of research, graduate education, and extension (http://nrem.okstate.edu/).  The position offers abundant opportunity to interact across multiple universities with scientists working in varied disciplines focused on ecological systems.

About the Department

The Department of Natural Resource Ecology & Management provides instruction, research, and Extension expertise that focuses on the natural resources of fisheries, forests, rangeland, and wildlife within and beyond the boundaries of Oklahoma. Our mission is to increase public awareness and understanding of the ecology, management, and sustainable use of these natural resources that are important for maintaining ecosystem health, species diversity, agriculture and forest production, hunting and fishing, and the enjoyment of experiencing nature.

The Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management is comprised of 23 faculty with expertise in fisheries, forest, rangeland, and wildlife resources, plus 12 administrative and research support staff. More than 50 master’s and doctoral graduate students are advised by NREM faculty, and we serve over 230 undergraduate students.
