Mission

The Langston University Police Officer is responsible for ensuring campus safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting positive community relations.

Members of the Langston University Police Department are committed to excellence and maintaining peace through lawfulness, diversity, service, integrity, leadership, and fair treatment of all individuals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Patrol campus areas on foot or by vehicle

  • Investigate crimes and suspicious activity

  • Enforce laws and university policies

  • Respond to emergencies and render aid when necessary

  • Complete detailed reports documenting incidents and daily activities

  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and other emergency services

  • Monitor safety hazards and address security concerns

  • Arrest suspects and support criminal investigations

  • Collaborate with local and state law enforcement agencies

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

  • Must have no felony convictions 

Experience

  • Experience in law enforcement or a related field is required

  • Strong writing and communication skills

  • Active listening and attention to detail

  • Physical stamina and endurance

  • Critical thinking and decision-making

  • Empathy and emotional intelligence

  • Ability to work effectively in a team

  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, but not required

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

  • CLEET certification preferred but not required for consideration; but must be obtained within six months of hire.
