This position will primarily provide support to the Landscape Services Department by diverting materials from landfills, such as cardboard, shredded paper, office paper, bottles, cans, pallets, etc.
Daily duties include but are not limited to completion of work orders, collecting pallets, and servicing trash and recycling pedestrian cans on pedestrian can route; cleaning and maintaining dumpster enclosures; litter pickup from campus grounds. Overtime is an essential function of this position and may require work during non-business hours (evenings, weekends, & when OSU is closed).
Some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies (emergencies can frequently involve difficult working conditions). This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
Regular exposure to disagreeable conditions, extreme temperature changes, odors, and loud noises. Must be able to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management; therefore, deeming you as essential personnel, requiring you to come into work regardless of the weather conditions. Some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies.
Emergencies frequently involve difficult working conditions. This may require work during non-business hours, which include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and when the University is closed. Appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment), gloves, safety glasses, etc., are provided for use in the workplace. Must adhere to all safety requirements and promote work safety. All other duties as assigned.

Material Mover I - one year of related experience.
Material Mover II - two years of related experience.
Material Mover Lead - three years of related experience. At least one year of experience at OSU Facilities Management.
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license.
A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned. Forklift certification within 90 days of hire.
Material Mover Lead - FM Leadership Development Program completion
The person in this position frequently communicates with customers and employees who have inquiries on work, so they must be able to communicate information accurately with a friendly & positive demeanor.
Ability to become proficient in the use of "AiM" Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology. Ability to communicate effectively and accurately. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with departmental representatives. Ability to work independently.
Good decision-making skills, as well as the ability to seek help, communicate with people, and work around moving machinery. Must work safely and promote a safe environment.
Post Secondary Education WITH three (3) to five (5) years of related experience (i.e., moving heavy materials, working in a landscaping/groundskeeping/waste management setting, setting up events, etc.) Proficient in working with computers, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
