OSU Facilities Management Landscape Department is looking for a dedicated and hardworking Landscape Maintenance Technician to join our team. As an LS Maintenance Tech, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our grounds are pristine, safe, and welcoming for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors. If you enjoy hands-on work and take pride in creating well-maintained landscapes, we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities include performing timely routine labor to support turf and garden maintenance, including mowing, string trimming, edging, blowing, fall leaf removal, landscape bed mulching, manual weed control, and daily litter pickup. Maintaining equipment, supplies, and tools to ensure they remain safe and in proper working order and reporting all repairs and needs to the crew leader. Additional responsibilities may include the ability to identify various turf species, directional mowing, aeration, inspections of irrigation, and identifying and reporting of plant and foliage stressing environmental hazards.
The employee in this position may be required to work overtime after 3:30 p.m. and/or shift work when management deems necessary. The ability to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management, regardless of weather, will be required, deeming you essential personnel.
This position regularly stands, bends, stoops, and lifts above the shoulders, is heavy in manual labor, and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
This position is required to work outdoors during extreme heat and cold, high levels of dust; operating hazardous equipment, hazardous noise levels and handling hazardous odoriferous chemicals.
Ability to become proficient in the use of “AiM” Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.
Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (hard hat, vest, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.). These items are provided and are not for personal use.

LS Maint Tech I – entry Level, no experience required.
LS Maint Tech II – two years of landscape maintenance-related work experience, including turf identification and maintenance abilities.
LS Maint Tech III – four years of landscape maintenance-related work experience, including turf and weed identification and maintenance abilities.
LS Maint Tech IV – six years of landscape maintenance-related work experience, including turf identification and maintenance abilities. Must have experience identifying plants and their growing requirements. Leadership training or verified leadership experience.
LS Maint Tech Sr. – ten years of landscape maintenance-related work experience, including turf identification and maintenance abilities. Must have experience identifying plants and their growing requirements. Leadership training or verified leadership experience. Must have experience with insect and disease identification.
Candidate position placement is dependent upon years of experience and availability.
Have, before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver’s license. A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required to perform the job duties as assigned.
LS Maint Tech Sr – Completion of a Landscape maintenance-related certification program through an accredited educational institution or professional organization or a related university Associate or Bachelor’s Degree.
Strong interest in landscape maintenance and plants. Strong attention to work detail and organizational skills. Strong work ethic and initiative for job quality and customer service. Ability to operate small engine equipment and utility vehicles and in confined spaces. Ability to use a shovel and other related hand tools, and work in inclement weather to meet the physical requirements as determined by the position and job duties. Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions. Strong communication skills both written and verbal. Computer skills. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety instructions and procedures. Ability to multitask and execute projects through to completion and in a timely manner. Must be able to work under minimal supervision.
