About this Position

This position will assist with all Lake Carl Blackwell grounds maintenance phases and operations. Responsible for safely operating power equipment, including lawn mower, weed eater, small tractor, chainsaw, or hand equipment. Required to assist with carpentry, minor construction, painting, plumbing tasks, and any task necessary to maintain the safety and appearance of the grounds at Lake Carl Blackwell. It also includes daily cleaning of public restrooms, shower houses, and disposing of trash from around the lake area. The position will work with removing of human waste from portable toilets via pumping units. The position requires working in the outdoors, tolerating extreme temperatures and weather. Position operates machinery with potentially hazardous noise levels and moving parts. The position also requires frequent, strenuous physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, carrying, and lifting. The position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift more than 50 pounds. The position will require weekend and evening hours at various times of the year.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • One year experience in groundskeeping, farming, and/or outdoor construction.
  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    A valid Driver’s License must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of the job duties as assigned.

    Ability to operate small engine equipment.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Ability to follow directions, use appropriate safety measures for tools and equipment used to perform tasks. Ability to effectively use grounds maintenance tools, and the ability to work efficiently independently and as part of a team. This position requires frequent strenuous physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, carrying and lifting (up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally). This position requires working outdoors, tolerating extreme temperatures and weather.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of grounds/maintenance experience preferred.
