About this Position

The Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (OADDL) at Oklahoma State University's College of Veterinary Medicine invites candidates to apply for the Lab Technician position in the Receiving/Necropsy department. This position is responsible for assisting with daily processing of diagnostic specimens, data entry into the laboratory's software system, dissection of deceased animals submitted for autopsy, maintenance of clean and safe laboratory spaces, disposal of animal and laboratory bio-hazardous waste, laundry, cleaning and autoclaving glassware. All other duties as assigned. Regular working hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Two years related experience - serving and interacting with the public and successfully managing daily workload responsibilities. Vocational/technical or post-secondary education may be substituted in lieu of experience.

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Valid driver's license is required.
  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Must be able to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with veterinarians, animal owners and co-workers. Must provide excellent customer service and follow laboratory procedures. Dependable, courteous, conscientious team player with attention to detail and problem solving skills are required. General knowledge of mammalian anatomy and ability to recognize major organs and tissues is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School/GED
  • Four years experience in an animal diagnostic laboratory setting or some type of related laboratory setting.
