Summary of Position:  

The Institutional Programs and Student Success Coordinator will work closely with and reports directly to the Dean, Sherman Lewis School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (SL/SAAS).   Responsibilities will range from projects in all Land-Grant mission areas, ranging from coordinating 1890 Scholarship program; support and coordinate workforce development and student research programs; support student recruitment/retention/student advisement; support partnership initiatives with stakeholders.

Additionally, responsibilities include assisting the Dean coordinate various reports to funding agencies, implementation of Land-Grant policies; tracking capital inventory and assist with coordinating operations across academic, research and extension missions of SL/SAAS.  The employee will research and analyze strategic choices for growth and make recommendations to the Dean that will achieve goals and objectives of SL/SAAS.  The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is highly motivated, enjoys working with various categories of stakeholders, energetic and endeavors to be an advocate for students, people and communities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support student recruitment, retention, internships and scholarship processing.
  • Support and assist with administration of Land-Grant Scholarship program, including collecting requisite data and coordinate annual reporting to funding agency.
  • Oversee and coordinate student experiential learning programs, including on-campus research, off-campus internships, workforce development and service-learning programing;
  • Work closely with the Dean and Director of Land Grant Programs as well as with Department Chairperson and other program leaders; 
  • Support student advisement and academic program specialization requirements;
  • Coordinate with various LU student services offices as needed to ensure that optimal support services are available;
  • Assist in planning, hosting, and supporting major Land-Grant events, including research, extension, academics conferences;
  • Supports the Dean in overseeing SAAS capital planning projects related to 1890 USDA facilities grant projects;
  • Oversees database of and tracks items purchased by SL/SAAS, USDA and related funds;
  • Assist with coordinating and streamlining purchases in SL/SAAS;
  • Review information received from funding agencies and distributes to appropriate administrators and investigators; keep abreast of changes in policies and regulations of granting agencies;
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the Land-Grant mission;

Education and Experience:

  • A passion for working with college students.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • A Master’s degree, not necessarily in an agriculture or related discipline is preferred.  Importantly, however, must have a high level of appreciation for and the capacity to understand and advocate for the field of Food and Agriculture. Minimum Requirement: BS or BA
  • Ability to quickly gain knowledge about the Langston University Sherman Lewis School of Agriculture & Applied Sciences as well as the 1890 Land-Grant Mission and having the aptitude for constant growth.
  • Ability to develop and manage spreadsheets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other technology used in conferencing; be familiar with QuickBooks / Banner / OK Corral etc. or willingness to learn.
  • NOTE: Although experience is a desired quality for this position, even more important is the expressed passion, optimistic attitude and desire for service to students, people and communities. In this regard, the position offers exceptional opportunities for growth and for collaborative work.

    Minimum Requirement: BS or BA- in Agriculture or related discipline.
