Work Schedule

Monday through Friday but will require some work to be performed seven days/week. During off season, feeding and daily care is required. During competition season, some weekends are required when hosting Equestrian competitions.

About this Position

The Herd Manager plays a vital role in the overall success of the Equestrian Team. This position is responsible for the daily management, care, and health of a 55‑horse herd. The Herd Manager also supervises and trains a team of 8–10 Equestrian student workers, including one graduate assistant. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining the student worker schedule for feeding, stall cleaning, and other routine barn duties throughout the season, including weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Four years of experience in equine management.

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Valid Drivers License
  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Candidate must have extensive knowledge of horses and livestock. Must have experience with running and maintaining a tractor and related equipment. Experience with driving a truck and trailer and hauling livestock is a necessity. Heavy lifting required moving such items as hay bales and feed sacks. Experience with lawn equipment. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
