About this Position

Fire Protection Publications is a mission-driven, values-based organization dedicated to the production of high-quality educational content for the international community of firefighters and first responders. The Fire Protection Publications (FPP) Project Manager is responsible for coordinating the development and completion of International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA)/FPP manuals and curriculum materials for national sale within planned schedules and budgets.

Major Responsibilities

As a Project Manager, you will:

  • Manage the development of IFSTA/FPP materials for national sale for completion within planned schedules and budgets.
  • Plan the development and revision of IFSTA curriculum in conjunction with the related IFSTA manuals and NFPA national standards.
  • Perform immediate supervision of the production staff and student employees.
  • Establish and manage a deadline schedule for each project.
  • Coordinate and manage the development and revision of projects in conjunction with related IFSTA manuals and meeting current national NFPA standards.
  • Coordinate draft and final production teams towards a final goal of publishing up-to-date materials.
  • Direct the implementation of a standard curriculum format that meets the needs of state fire training directors and other users.
  • Work with the FPP Graphics department to establish, finalize, and maintain visual content and typesetting best practices as appropriate.
  • Interact with other FPP Managers to coordinate common content objectives.
  • Create original curriculum and testing materials based on training manuals and professional qualifications standards.
  • Locate, plan and review illustrations, photos and other support materials for curriculum and review all printed and electronic materials for completeness and accuracy.
  • Coordinate or perform editorial review of curriculum drafts, newsletters and curriculum-related advertising materials for correct technical content, consistency, spelling, grammar, punctuation and style.
  • Ensure that all component parts of major publications are accurately identified and of sufficient quality to meet publication standards.
  • Represent FPP and IFSTA at meetings, conferences and other related functions to maintain visibility and promote the use of training materials and generate goodwill towards OSU, FPP, IFSTA and the fire service as a whole.
  • Represent FPP and IFSTA at university local state national and international fire service conferences and expositions.
  • Represent FPP and IFSTA on NFPA technical committees, other major fire service organizations, Society for Technical Communications activities or other publishing-related organizations as requested.
  • Deliver presentations upon request.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Six years of related work experience. Post- secondary education may be substituted for experience

  • Basic knowledge of data/word processing applications, such as Google Suite or Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's
    • Bachelor’s degree in Secondary, Adult, Vocational or Occupational Education, Technical Writing, Curriculum and Instruction or related field.
    • Experience in curriculum development of training material at any level or related field and one year of experience in coordinating development of training material. Previous fire or emergency service curriculum development experience.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Fire Service Experience
  • Experience in developing electronic learning products.
