This position is located in the Payne County Extension Office, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Position provides leadership and management to educational programs focusing on community leadership and local economic development with 50% of the time in communications and marketing and 50% of the time in 4-H youth development work.

  • Participates as a cohesive team member to involve local clientele and advisory groups to plan, implement, and evaluate the total Cooperative Extension county program.
  • Responsible for all communications for the Payne County OSU Extension Office.
  • Lead strategic campaigns that promote the Payne County OSU Extension brand and message.
  • Produce digital promotional materials, writes compelling stories, and successfully promotes all Payne County educational events and manage Payne County Extension social media accounts.
  • Understand current strategic communications strategies.
  • Create and incorporate graphic design and layout elements for a variety of multimedia promotional materials.
  • Write feature stories, news releases, and content for the Payne County OSU Extension sales tax report, website, and other marketing materials.
  • Ability to teach educational workshops based around communications and marketing to 4-H members and other community members.
  • Create promotional videos to promote Payne County Extension events, success stories, and other highlights.
  • Serve as a photographer for Payne County OSU Extension.
  • Work closely with Agricultural Communication Services so that local initiatives and communications align with DASNR and Extension policies and expectations as well as OSU branding guidelines.
  • Assist with and lead Payne County Extension special promotions and events.
  • Knowledgeable about the agricultural industry and Extension Service so that communication efforts can be effective and efficient.
  • Handle day to day media relations activities.
  • Design and implement communication plans and media outreach strategies.
  • Prepare content for a variety of communication vehicles including, face to face, flyers, blogs, website, marketing materials, and social media as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned in support of overall goals and objectives of the Payne County OSU Extension Service

Due to communication expectations of the position, the incumbent will be required to maintain cellular or other electronic communication devices.  The incumbent’s salary includes compensation to apply toward the use of their personal cellular device.

Base annual salary for entry level educators who have a bachelor’s degree is $44,000; a master’s degree is $50,000. Starting salary is based upon education and prior relevant work experience.

Extension educators hired with only a bachelor’s degree are encouraged to work toward completion of an approved master’s degree.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Agricultural Communications, or related field
    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • At least one year experience in publications, technical writing, news media or related field.  Starting salary is based upon education and prior relevant work experience. 

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Valid driver’s license required. Reliable transportation for travel connected with official duties. Reimbursement for official travel.
  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: *Strong written and verbal communication skills *Organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail *Resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be effective independently *Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability *Coordinating/conducting internal and external media training *Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, *Capable of independent judgement, decision making, and performing with minimal oversight or supervision. *Be proficient and familiar with photography, videography, and podcasting equipment. *Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate effectively, and to foster a professional image of OCES by displaying a positive view of the organization both internally and externally. *Demonstrated ability to adapt well to changing priorities, situations, and day-to-day demands. *Demonstrated ability and willingness to effectively manage time and resources. *Evidence of ability to build and maintain relationships and work effectively with clientele, advisory groups, volunteer leaders and other professionals, etc. *Demonstrated competency and effective use of computing and computer-based communications technology. *Demonstrated leadership ability in designing, promoting, presenting, and evaluating educational programs and the desire to program to reach diverse audiences. *Commitment to continue personal professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Communications, journalism, public relations, agricultural communications, or related field.
  • Previous experience in Cooperative Extension or closely related work is desirable.
