About this Position

The MCS Event Specialist serves as operations and event management facilitator with various responsibilities for organizing, supporting, and executing events within the Student Union. This position provides supervision, direction, and training for the student building managers, student set-up crew, and student event service representatives. This position should demonstrate strong organizational, supervisory, and leadership skills. It designs, implements, and evaluates procedures, policies, and practices to ensure accurate and thorough work, which also produces high levels of customer service. Appropriate delegation of facility related service is to be practiced, monitored, and verified by signed/initialed checklists, worksheets and/or other reports. The MCS Event Specialist is responsible for ensuring that relevant, accurate and thorough nighttime, theater, and ballroom reports are produced. This position shares responsibility for accurate and timely set-up, design, preparation, and tear-down of events held in Student Union Meeting rooms. This position is also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all physical resources (tables, chairs, A/V equipment, etc.). All other duties as assigned. This position should expect seasonal changes in work hours. Operational hours change over the summer, breaks, and holidays. There will be occasional requirements to shift hours in order to meet the demand of meetings, events, or other activities.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Two years of work experience

    Post-secondary education may be substituted for experience 

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Experience working with audio visual equipment.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Ability to handle High Pressure, Stress Related, Possible confrontation w/ guests.

    Physical Requirements: Proper ergonomics, Heavy lifting, able to stand on feet for long periods of time

    Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., with the ability to bend and stand for extended periods (up to or exceeding eight hours per day) are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's

    Business, Hospitality or related

  • Six years customer service, exceptional interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience in managing full-time employees.
