About this Position

The Director of Institutional Research and Analytics reports directly to the Assistant Vice President. The Director provides leadership and strategic direction for institutional research, planning, and program assessment for OSU-OKC, aligning all efforts with the institution’s mission and strategic goals. This role champions student-focused, accountability-driven initiatives that promote continuous quality improvement and sustainable institutional growth. This position will develop and oversee research methodologies that deliver actionable insights and outcome-based metrics to support evidence-informed decision-making and enhance institutional performance. Collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders, the Director ensures that data-driven results are integrated into planning processes and ongoing improvement strategies. Key responsibilities include producing and disseminating descriptive and analytical reports related to academic and administrative programs, accreditation, institutional effectiveness, outcomes assessment, program review, and mandated reporting at the local, state, and federal levels.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, management information systems, information studies, visual science, computer information systems or related discipline from an accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum of five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in institutional research, institutional effectiveness, enrollment analytics, or higher education data analysis.
  • Experience with federal, state, and accreditation reporting, including IPEDS
  • Experience working collaboratively with academic affairs, student affairs, enrollment management, finance, and information technology

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated expertise in postsecondary data systems (e.g., SIS, data warehouses, IPEDS tools) and data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., dashboards, BI platforms)
  • Working knowledge of regional accreditation standards and their relationship to data, assessment, and student outcomes
  • Exemplifies professionalism and positivity through appearance, conduct, and attitude at all times.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate effectively within dynamic, cross-functional teams.
  • Fundamental understanding of programming/coding logic and processes
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices pertaining to education program compliance and continuous improvement including experience in enterprise class business intelligence and analytics tools and reporting.
  • Fundamental understanding of Cloud-based services and technologies.
  • Excellent analytical skills: analyze large amounts of data, facts, figures and report critical findings, conclusions, and trends to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively to develop and maintain high-quality institutional data initiatives.
  • Well-developed organizational and project planning with a high degree of initiative.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly, and effectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions and respond to inquiries appropriately with students, faculty, staff and community partners.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and work autonomously while effectively collaborating in a team-oriented environment.
  • High degree of initiative to work independently and to also collaborate in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including but not limited to: office computers, fax machines, scanners, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in data science, management information systems, information studies, visual science, computer information systems or related discipline from an accredited college or university required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred in data analytics, computer information management, business information or a related field.
  • Three years of experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions or Student Information Systems, such as Ellucian Banner or Oracle PeopleSoft.
  • Experience with data warehouse and dissemination technologies, such as SAS, Cognos, Tableau, and/or Excel.
  • Experience with writing SQL using administrative tools, such as SQL Developer, SQL Server Management Studio, and/or Cognos Native SQL.
  • Experience in developing institutional data, analysis and modeling that supports the mission and data reporting requirements in a timely manner, ensuring proactive management, prioritization, escalation and communication.

Essential Job Functions:

Strategic Leadership & Institutional Planning

  1. Provides leadership and coordination for institutional research, program assessment, and continuous quality improvement.
  2. Works collaboratively with leadership teams, assessment committees, academic leaders, and faculty to establish and evaluate student achievement measures.
  3. Develops institutional benchmarks and monitors progress to support strategic and programmatic improvement.
  4. Oversees OSU-OKC’s Assessment Plan and related activities; prepares and distributes annual assessment reports aligned with strategic planning objectives.
  5. Consults with administrative units to develop and analyze performance outcomes related to the campus Strategic Plan.

Research Design & Data Analytics

  1. Designs and implements research strategies to collect, analyze, and report data on student outcomes, persistence, remediation, enrollment trends, and degree completion.
  2. Utilizes diverse assessment methods across student academic journeys—from entry assessments through post-graduation follow-up—and applies feedback loops to inform improvements.
  3. Directs institutional surveys such as student satisfaction, course evaluations, employer feedback, and others to inform decision-making.
  4. Develops accessible systems for storing and retrieving historical and current data for use by internal and external stakeholders.

Decision Support & Reporting

  1. Advises leadership and staff in interpreting and applying data to guide institutional decisions.
  2. Leads the preparation and submission of statistical reports to state and federal agencies (e.g., IPEDS), accrediting bodies, and other external stakeholders.
  3. Monitors external trends (regulatory, political, economic, educational) and assesses implications for institutional effectiveness.

Collaboration & Communications

  1. Partners with the Vice Provost and Marketing teams to inform branding, positioning, and targeted marketing strategies using institutional data.
  2. Organizes and delivers accurate, timely oral and written reports to stakeholders, including internal decision-makers and agencies such as the Oklahoma State Regents, Higher Learning Commission, and NCES.
  3. Serves on institutional committees and provides statistical expertise to support strategic dialogue.

Resource Management & Compliance

  1. Supervises, trains, and evaluates staff; establishes work priorities and ensures timely delivery of high-quality products.
  2. Formulates and recommends the unit’s annual budget.
  3. Oversees all federal and state reporting.
  4. Oversees completion of external surveys.
  5. Assists staff with SAS and Cognos programs.
  6. Oversees and assists with data requests.
  7. Upholds data confidentiality, especially regarding student and employee information.

External Relations & Advancement Support

  1. Provides data and analysis to support alumni relations, donor engagement, and institutional advancement strategies.
  2. Assists with grant development and proposals for foundations, corporations, and industry partners.

Institutional Representation

  1. Builds and maintains positive working relationships with internal colleagues, external agencies, and governing bodies.
  2. Represents OSU-OKC with professionalism and integrity in all institutional interactions.
  3. Completes all mandatory training and participate in a minimum of two professional development opportunities each year.
  4. Collaborates on system-wide reporting and data initiatives supporting OSU and OSU A&M institutional goals.
  5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include some nights and weekends.

  • Duties require extended periods of sitting, talking and listening.
  • Duties require extensive use of computers, telephones and other office equipment.
  • Requires possible lifting of up to 25 lbs. (If an object weights more than 45 lbs., OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift).
