Department Head Position Announcement

The School of Entrepreneurship in the Spears School of Business (SSB) at Oklahoma State University (OSU) is seeking an outstanding individual to assume the leadership role of Department Head. The School of Entrepreneurship offers a full range of academic programs at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. The ideal candidate will possess the leadership skills and strategic vision to advance the School’s reputation for excellence in research, teaching, academic programs, student engagement, and professional outreach.

Position Responsibilities

•Provide vision, leadership, and communication that reinforces and continues to foster a team-oriented, participatory culture built on voluntarism and mutual respect.

•Work collaboratively with the Dean to implement the SSB strategic plan and to deliver continuous improvement in research, teaching, academic programs, and professional engagement along with maintenance of AASCB accreditation.

•Efficiently and effectively manage departmental activities, including budget oversight and management, expanding financial resources, supervising staff, and making personnel decisions.

•Work closely with faculty members to support and mentor their career development as well as personal and professional flourishing.

•Continue to enhance the department’s research productivity in both entrepreneurship generally and the specialized expertise of the School’s faculty.

•Lead ongoing and new efforts to further improve the School’s reputation as a leader in entrepreneurship education and research nationally and globally.

•Participate in and support the recruitment of outstanding students for the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs.

•Represent the department across a wide range of internal and external activities, including development and alumni activities, student placement, and engagement with practice- and academic-based organizations to play a collaborative role in OSU’s technology commercialization efforts and grow SSB’s community engagement.

•Work closely with advisory board(s) to provide feedback and support of department activities inclusive of academic programs and student success efforts.

•Work collaboratively with other departments, programs, and units as well as administrators within SSB and OSU.

•Balance multiple demands of the position while continuing professional growth and development as well as maintenance of scholarly academic status per AACSB.

Required Qualifications

•Earned doctorate in entrepreneurship, management, or related field from an AACSB-accredited school or equivalent.

•Demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and professional service with preference for tenured faculty at the full professor rank with a strong teaching and research record in entrepreneurship, especially publications in top entrepreneurship journals.

•Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills as evidenced by the ability to engage with faculty, students, staff, alumni, and the business community.

•Academic and/or practice experience that demonstrates planning, program development, evaluation, problem solving, external relations, and collaboration skills.

•Experience creating and sustaining a culture of openness, collaboration, respect, and voluntarism.

Salary

Competitive and commensurate with experience and academic qualifications.
