Hiring Range

$42,000 - $45,000

About this Position

The Dairy Herd Information (DHI) Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in supporting dairy herd management by providing accurate milk sample analysis and precise data handling. This role involves conducting component and advanced diagnostic testing, ensuring proper data entry and validation, and reporting results to producers and industry partners. The technician contributes to quality control and laboratory maintenance, and may also assist with research and development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples, reagents, and equipment in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform milk component analyses and advanced diagnostic tests.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments to ensure accuracy and compliance with testing protocols.
  • Accurately record and input test results and herd data into specialized software systems for submission to dairy producers and industry databases.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of laboratory records.
  • Review and validate lab results and herd data for quality and consistency.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving data entry or analysis issues.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, adhere to safety protocols, and follow Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Support the development and revision of SOPs and testing methods.
  • Assist with audits, regulatory inspections, and certifications through accurate documentation and compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address quality concerns and implement corrective actions.

Required Qualifications

  • (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field (preferred).Bachelor's
  • Prior experience working in a laboratory setting.
  • Solid understanding of laboratory techniques and reporting standards.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of data accuracy.

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field (preferred).
  • Prior experience working in a laboratory setting.
  • Solid understanding of laboratory techniques and reporting standards.
