About this Position

Fire Protection Publications is a mission-driven, values-based organization dedicated to the production of high-quality educational content for the international community of firefighters and first responders. The person in this role will be responsible for duties pertaining to IT for Fire Protection Publications.

Major Responsibilities

As a Computer Specialist I - Sr II, you will:

  • Provide on-site and remote end-user support for hardware and software issues, including setting up new workstations and applications, and offering user training and documentation.
  • Research, recommend, and acquire hardware, software, and services in collaboration with vendors and OSU Purchasing, while managing software licenses, subscriptions, and hardware purchases.
  • Oversee identity management by creating and maintaining user accounts for networks, cloud services, and email, ensuring proper configurations for new and existing employees.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of IT procedures, equipment, and licenses.
  • Maintain and update the front-end presentation and functionality of the IFSTA and IFSJLM websites, collaborating with the maintenance team for testing and managing web updates.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for FPP staff on technology systems.
  • Provide IT support to International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) and its bi-annual conference (as needed).
  • Other Duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Computer Specialist I:

    • Bachelor’s degree and one year of related experience OR
    • High school and six years related experience 
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    Computer Specialist II: 

    • Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience OR
    • High school and eight years related experience 
    • Working knowledge of setting up and maintaining computer systems and servers including configuration
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    Computer Specialist III: 

    • Bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience OR
    • High school and ten years related experience 
    • Detailed knowledge of setting up and maintaining computer systems and servers including configuration
    • Demonstrated leadership experience
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    Senior Computer Specialist I: 

    • Bachelor’s degree and seven years of related experience
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    Senior Computer Specialist II: 

    • Bachelor’s degree plus 10 years related experience or master’s degree and 8 years related experience
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Post-secondary education may substitute for years of required experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors
    • Computer Science, Technology, or Business

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, OS (Windows/Mac), peripheral equipment, and remote desktop tools for local and remote users.
  • Proficiency in Active Directory or Google Workspace for provisioning user accounts, permissions, and email configuration.
  • Ability to manage IT inventory, software licenses, subscriptions, vendor relationships, and purchasing workflows.
  • Knowledge in management and updating a Content Management System (CMS) such as WordPress and Drupal.
