About this Position
The Business Operations Specialist is responsible for a variety of human resources, payroll, and administrative functions within the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). As part of the CAS Dean's Business Operations team, this position plays an important role in supporting faculty, staff, department leadership, and business operations across the college.
The Business Operations Specialist serves as a primary liaison between CAS departments and university administrative units and provides operational support to departments within the college. This position works closely with Human Resources, Payroll Services, and other university offices to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
The primary responsibility for the specialist consists of coordinating and assisting with payroll administration throughout the college. The specialist serves as the primary point of contact for CAS departmental admins for payroll inquiries. HR information systems (Banner), personnel transactions, reporting, and onboarding are also high-priority items the individual will be tasked with. The position supports hiring activities by processing new hire documentation and employment transactions. Additionally, the Business Operations Specialist assists with the maintenance of personnel records and report generation.
This position requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while serving a large and diverse college community. The successful candidate will collaborate with departments across CAS and support initiatives that contribute to effective college operations and exceptional service to faculty, staff, and students.
Required Qualifications
- High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date) and five years of clerical/customer service experience.
- Post-secondary education may substitute for years of required experience.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
- Ability to operate general office equipment; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Teams).
- Strong organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
