The Assistant Director of Residential Life, is responsible for working with the Housing & Residential Life Department to establish and maintain a community within the residence halls that is conducive to the academic and personal growth of students and is consistent with the University and Housing & Residential Life philosophy and mission, as well as , an environment that is representative of the guidelines laid out by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education for Housing & Residential Life programs. The Assistant Director will assist in the administration and supervision of single student housing operations; plan and implement student staff training; assess, advance and implement the student development program in support of a public research education; advise support, and educate students and student groups; and review and develop Residential Life policies. Monitor and oversee student case summaries, monthly dashboard reports, building analytics and case turnaround analysis; Follow up on educational sanctions and other types of student outreach; Create, oversee, and assess departmental crisis management policies and emergency procedures and the Residence Hall Policies and Safety and Security procedures in the Community Standards Handbook. Provides oversight of eleven residence halls housing 2,600+ students. Actively supervises and evaluates staff at all levels in the residence halls. Assist in the recruitment, selection, and training of Residential Living Staff. Plans and implements operational and educational policies. Coordinates with Facilities Management to ensure that all resident issues and needs are resolved in a timely manner. In addition, the Assistant Director works closely with the housing staff to respond and monitor all protocol issues. All other duties as assigned. This is an 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday position. At peaks times during the year the position will require evenings and weekends. Serves as part of a crisis duty rotation. Tasks may take place at any time a student or staff member requires the presence of the Assistant Director to resolve a particularly difficult or emergency situation. To remain updated on the latest techniques and programs in residence hall living, occasional travel to Regional and National conferences. The Assistant Director needs to reside within a 20 minute driving distance to campus. Must be able to periodically travel to all halls and suites within area of responsibility (up to 1.5 miles).
College Student Development/Personnel, Higher Education, or related field
(degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)Three years of experience in residence halls, administrative experience, or other student affairs areas.
Computer skills required.
