About this Position

We are looking to fill three Animal Technician Positions. This is a 12-month full-time position with the title of AIGR Animal Technician. The position works with AIGR Farms and performs daily animal maintenance, research, and extension activities. This position falls within the AIGR Extension and Research Plan of Work and is funded through federal and state appropriations with the supervision of the Langston University Sherman Lewis School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (LU-SL/SAAS).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Daily Duties

• Provide feed and water for goats and farm dogs.

• Cleaning of dairy barn alley, waterers, and Callan gate feeders.

• Provide standard animal management practices.

• Monitor the health and feeding conditions of goats.

• Perform miscellaneous farm duties as assigned by the farm manager.

Weekly Duties

• Check pre dip, post dip and milking parlor cleaning detergents.

• Cleaning and disinfecting maternity and nursery facilities.

• Cleaning of feed containers and buckets.

• Cleaning of the main farm compound every week.

Periodical Duties

• Assist in breeding, kidding, and feeding of newborn kids.

• Perform milking and keep a record of daily milk production.

• Assist in weaning, ear tagging, and related husbandry practices.

• Assist in bleeding, weighing, and sample collection.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

• Highly organized and flexible

• Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse, multicultural environment.

• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.

• Able to work with university students.

• Able to operate (or willing to learn to operate) tools, machinery, and equipment common to farming operations

• Team player and show mutual respect for faculty, staff, students, and producers.

Preferred Qualifications
