About this Position
Provide direct support to the department head, contributing to efficient and effective operation of the department. Provide supervision of departmental support staff in the absence of the Department Head and as requested. Provide office services by implementing administrative systems, procedures and policies and monitoring administrative projects. Create and revise systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record keeping systems, budgetary and personnel requirements, and implementing changes. Work with other administrative support staff by assigning tasks, providing information, and ensuring completion of tasks and projects. Resolve administrative problems by coordinating preparation of reports, analyzing data, and identifying solutions. Provide information by answering questions and requests. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional groups and establishing strong external contacts.
Required Qualifications
- High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- Seven (7) years related experience.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and professional demeanor. Ability to deal tactfully with constituents, including university officials, college administrators, a diverse faculty, support staff, and students. Ability to motivate others and to encourage a team approach to problem-solving. Ability to simultaneously handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced, high pressure environment is essential. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's
- 7 years progressively responsible experience in an administrative support position (education may substitute for experience). Experience with supervision of staff and management of a busy professional office.
