About this Position
GENERAL SUMMARY:
OSUIT Workforce & Economic Development is seeking a highly skilled and industry-experienced HVAC Instructor to deliver a 10-week, non-credit Industrial HVAC Systems Technologies upskilling program. This course prepares incumbent technicians for work in mission-critical environments such as data centers, industrial facilities, and utility systems.
This position will lead hands-on, evening instruction focused on advanced HVAC system operation, controls, electrical integration, and energy-efficient practices.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- High School/GED required
- Associate’s degree from an accredited university or college, or certification from an industry recognized technical training program preferred.
- Other combinations of education and industry experience may be substituted for degree/certification requirements.
Experience:
- 5+ years of industry experience in HVAC systems, preferably in industrial or mission-critical environments
- Strong knowledge of large-scale HVAC systems, controls, and electrical components
- Experience with troubleshooting and system diagnostics
- Familiarity with OSHA standards and electrical safety practices (NFPA 70E)
- Excellent communication and instructional skills
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
Licensure/Certification:
- Valid Oklahoma driver’s license
- HVAC Unlimited Journeyman
- EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal preferred)
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Skills and Abilities:
- Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction aligned with program curriculum.
- Teach advanced HVAC concepts including:
- Industrial cooling systems (chillers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units)
- Advanced refrigeration and controls (VRF systems, automation)
- Electrical systems and troubleshooting (motors, drives, PLC basics)
- Airflow management and environmental controls
- Energy efficiency and predictive maintenance strategies
- Demonstrate and enforce OSHA and NFPA 70E safety practices, including PPE and lockout/tagout
- Facilitate lab activities and real-world simulations
- Assess learning through quizzes, skills demonstrations, and final competency evaluations.
- Support learners in developing job-ready technical skills for mission-critical environments.
Communication Skills:
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively recognize and resolve conflict.
