About this Position

The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accounting Specialist to support the financial and administrative operations in the School of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM). This is a key support role in a dynamic academic environment and will serve as an expert on all matters pertaining to the financial operations for the School. The position requires knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping, record keeping, and financial forecasting.

Primary responsibilities of the Accounting Specialist include:

  • preparing and distributing monthly financial statements
  • reconciling financial statements
  • preparing and processing PCard and OK Corral purchases
  • preparing and processing travel vouchers and travel requests
  • creating OSU Foundation vouchers and making deposits/transfers to Foundation accounts as needed
  • posting/encumbering expenses such as salary, travel, requisitions, and work orders to proper accounts for projection purposes
  • preparing and processing redistributions for transferring expenses
  • providing backup support for human resource functions for the school (including recruitment, new hire paperwork, Employment Personnel Action Forms and payroll functions)
  • providing assistance and monitoring compliance with OSU policies
  • supporting the general functions of the office, including receptionist duties as needed.

This Accounting Specialist works closely with the Administrative Associate and Department Head to support the academic and operational mission of the School. The successful candidate must be able to manage their time effectively, maintain organization of their assignments, and be customer service oriented. 

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Accounting Specialist: 2 years of experience in accounting/bookkeeping.

    Senior Accounting Specialist: 3 years of experience in accounting/bookkeeping.

    Post-secondary education may substitute for years of required experience.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Strong customer service skills for internal and external clients. Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office with strong skills in Excel. General accounting principles and office correspondence. Must be able to work with faculty/staff on a one-on-one basis. Accuracy in position and reconciling accounts is a must. Must be effective when working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Willingness to learn new processes and business software.

    Lifting objects in excess of 20 pounds on an infrequent basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's

    Business Administration, Accounting, or related

  • Five years of administrative/clerical or accounting experience within a University structure to attain protocol and functional expertise. Experience interpreting and forecasting expenditures on grants.
