About this Position

The Academic Program Specialist will support the Oklahoma State University (OSU) Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence (ITLE), OSU Online department by providing effective communication and student support to prospective and current undergraduate and graduate online students. This position will respond to inquiries related to online degree programs, admissions, curriculum, course format, tuition and fees, and available student resources. Communication will occur through phone, email, virtual meetings, written correspondence, and occasional in-person interactions. 

The Academic Program Specialist will assist the Director of Academic Programs with recruitment and retention initiatives that enhance the online student experience. The specialist will research online learner needs and provide recommendations to improve OSU’s online student support services. This position will collaborate with a variety of campus departments and student service offices to support student engagement and persistence.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Five years of experience in a student development field or an advising office.
  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Knowledge of OSU student support services and/or advising experience; experience writing student support content. The successful applicant will possess a positive attitude and excellent people skills including experience providing friendly, professional, and effective customer service. The individual must have strong written and verbal communication skills, be highly organized and able to manage multiple projects. The individual must be willing to learn quickly, adapt to a quickly changing environment, solve problems, and work with diverse stakeholders. Applicants must be proficient with common workplace business/education software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's

    Student development, higher education, marketing, or a related field.

  • Three to four years of experience in a student development field or an advising office, knowledge of OSU student support services and/or advising experience; experience with student support. 

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: The successful candidate will have demonstrated customer service experience and ability to work effectively as part of a team. The individual must have experience conducting research and market analysis of higher education online students.
