About this Position

This position will drive the Transit Para-transit bus on campus, city streets, and state-mandated highways. Safely transport University students, staff/faculty, and the general public on a fixed scheduled bus route. Perform a prescribed pre-operational safety maintenance check. Accumulate and record statistics for the daily report. Perform all other responsibilities as assigned. Must be at least 18 years of age or older and able to stoop, bend, or kneel to secure wheelchairs to fulfill ADA requirements, which includes manual operation of the wheelchair lift or ramp and lifting at least 50 lbs. This is a safety-sensitive position and, as required by USDOT, "Safety-Sensitive employees must meet the requirements of 49 CFR Part 40 (Drug and Alcohol Regulations)."

 

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of hire.

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.

    • Must have or obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a "P" (Passenger) endorsement and no air brake restriction within 30 days of hire.

    • The department will initially cover the cost of CDL training; however, reimbursement may be required if the employee leaves the position within one or two years of completing the training.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
    • Must be able to stoop, bend, or kneel to perform ADA wheelchair securement.

    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Two years of experience.

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    • Class B CDL with Passenger endorsement.
